AC Milan already thinking of Pioli's sacking

Stefano Pioli will sign a two-year deal with AC Milan but there’s a gentleman’s agreement between the parties to terminate the contract in advance.

After announcing the sacking of Marco Giampaolo, Stefano Pioli will be appointed the new head coach of AC Milan. The former Inter and Fiorentina coach will sign a two-year deal but there is a gentleman’s agreement to terminate the contract at the end of the season if AC Milan don’t qualify for Champions League, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Pioli will earn 1.5 million euros per year, with a bonus of 500 thousand in case of Champions League qualification. A salary decidedly lower than the 4.5 million euros Luciano Spalletti would have received.

However, Inter declined to offer Spalletti a severance pay in order to terminate his contract that binds him to the Nerazurri until 2021. AC Milan too refused to cover that difference of three million euros.

From Spalletti, Milan then moved to Plan B. Thus Pioli, who has close to becoming Sampdoria’s coach, joins the Rossoneri instead. He will be joined by a staff of six people including his son Gianmarco, while he will inherit the goalkeeping coach, Gigi Turci, from Giampaolo.

Pioli will have the arduous task of bringing AC Milan out of this unexpected crisis. Boban and Maldini vouched for him and are convinced they have made the right choice. The Italian coach will make his inter debut on 20 October against Lecce at San Siro.
